Makes me sad because I want to move to Norway in hopes of fleeing the German summer :(

It will still be cooler here than in Germany. And if the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) fails it will quickly become a lot colder than it is now.

Also the abstract talks only about peak temperatures. Those peaks tend to last only for a few days or even less in Norway, the July average where I live (about 40 km south of Oslo) this year was 18 C (0.5 C higher than normal), maximum was 32 C (for two days), minimum 6 C.

Very jealous :D Unironically hate summer so much, July with an average of 18C° is like a dream

That's what my children (grown men actually) say. They hate those few days when it's over about 26 C.

Mulching is an old tradition. Where they have it, people spread sheep's wool over the soil to shield it from the sun. Or they cut plants with a scythe and lay them on the ground as green manure. It covers the soil and also feeds what you grow on it later, so you are actually producing soil.
