We really need to start drug testing those in charge at Sony. They’ve been at it a while. I remember making the mistake of buying one of their early digital cameras, only to find out their memory sticks were $120 for 128MB. SD cards were maybe half that. Was all downhill from there.
Ooooh oxygen free copper chassis! (loads device with compressed audio)
I have a few of the older ones in this series. They’re nice for letting me experience music without having to have my phone with me. It’s basically stock android, which is fine, I just don’t like having my main Google account on it because that would require me to put a passcode, which breaks the “music device” unitasker use case.
The alleged hardware advances have left the audible range some decades ago, but it’s still fun to read what they do with the components.
I thought this must be a halo product that's not intended to be sold in volume, it just exists to make their cheaper products look normal. But here's all their MP3 players:

Their cheapest branded "Walkman" is $1900. Their cheapest "digital media player" is $400. And they all just look like Android phones with extra buttons.
At least the one I’ve seen in person appeared to be literally that, an android phone without the phone bit; so an intentionally awkward user experience for no purpose.
It is for zillionaires. Its like $3 to them; fraction of second of interest on their accounts. That's why its gold in color.
Am I missing something or is this a glorified iPod Touch with media controls as physical buttons?
What kind of Walkman doesn’t play cassettes? Can’t wait to see what they come up with for a $9,999.99 Discman.
That's gotta be real gold. There's no other reason for that price tag.
Same as lots of audiophile and other luxury goods: the perception that price implies quality.
