Define: Quality.
If you mean, readability, that's different from Defect-free software. Or software that meets requirements.
Which do you mean?
When I worked in a law firm as a programmer analyst, I would comment and document my code as well as work with QA for zero defects using a Japanese quality management system of continual improvement. Does the AI follow that? Does it work as a team?
It depends. Do we want to be a society that produces things we can be proud of or do we just want to produce things?
Do we want to put care into things, not because it's always immediately applicable but because it helps support our integrity and mindfulness of human beings, or do we just want to get things done?
I'd rather it be the former, and that's why I believe in code quality. But if you're just after the bottom line, by all means, LLM-code away and ignore quality.
Quality always matters, just like safety.
Nobody can judge when something insignificant can have major effects. A lot of plane crash investigation shows are a good example of why something that appears not to matter, actually does.
If you cant do things well, then dont bother. Show pride in what you do.
