This is an amazing little device, I have yet to reproduce it but I definitely will do so this year. The main reason I want one is to be able to serve as a 'stepper' for tiling stuff under a microscope. The repeat accuracy of this thing is uncanny and the fact that it can move in three dimensions (rather than two, which is the norm for a microscope) means that it will be possible to keep the object in focus even if it has some thickness.

I've got one that seems caught up perpetually in that "half built" state that some project find themselves in, but I too am hoping to get it done this year.

Their discord community is pretty active with a lot of mods and forks from the users, and the openpnp discord has some pretty interesting projects on there too.
