Literally why use this instead of just sending a text?

‘Oh, my son is calling, let me drop everything and answer. Never mind, he had Google AI call me to tell me he’s running late.’

And you can send voice messages if you want that personal touch.

Having AI make a phone call and then be unable to say much else doesn't seem too useful.

Google's deployment of automation to the consumer is dangerous for those consumers.

I've attempted to use Call Recording (or the newer automated Call Notes, which records) and I've discovered that at least two clinic systems have automated countermeasures against call recording. They will literally busy out your line, deny you service, hang up on you at the first whiff of them being recorded. They Do Not Like That. It's hella annoying to me, because I sometimes need to go back and review conversations to prove I heard them correctly (often I didn't) and also it proves HIPAA is a lie and a sham that only covers the asses of providers, not consumers.

So what's going to happen, when you unleash this automation on a company: the receptionists and CSRs will gleefully slam down the phone and refuse to engage with any of it. They will be within their rights and their policies to shut out anything that IDs up-front as AI, and they'll probably attempt to "voice CAPTCHA" anything that smells non-human. Your relatives will get pissed off, and nobody will be happy that robots are proxying for the human connection now. Well, a few people will be delighted. No doubt.
