He said years ago Lidar was not necessary. Yet others in the industry said it is vital.

Ignoring the experts only leads to issues like this.

You don't have to be an expert to grasp that a camera's vision can be degraded by darkness, snow, rain, fog, direct sunlight or simply dirt on the lens.

And that driving blind can be hazardous --- to the driver and anyone else in the vicinity.
