I’m a straight man and I like these kinds of books, among others. I think people should like what they like without worrying what less secure people think about it. The kinds of people who gatekeep masculinity are not the kinds of people I’m interested in impressing.

Are you referring to the thing that literally says, in very large font, “This is not a paywall”? The one with a large, easily clickable X in the upper-right corner that dismisses it with no payment required?

No. There is a "large, easily clickable X in the upper-right corner" that dismisses it by asking me to pay and/or subscribe. The Guardian always puts up a paywall or asks for my e-mail address so they can spam the hell out of me but that's largely OK since the Guardian is mostly horseshit anyway.
