Why would humans need to be trained to do something that has been automated? Educators of trade skills have always had to adjust to changes in technology. Coding is no different. Now there are tools that allow you to bypass the coding work, so educate people on other, more useful skills.

I think there's a distinction between needing to learn & needing a degree. If you already know how to build software & can pick up new stuff on your own, going back to Uni probably won't fix the actual issue. If the weakness is CS fundamentals, or architecture, or some algorithms, systems, etc. then yeah I'd spend some time plugging those gaps. You don't need to go back to Uni for 4 years to do that.Also - getting laid off shouldn't automatically be seen as evidence that your education is the problem - sometimes you're just on the wrong end of a company's decision
