I think only measuring profits and not taking into account total revenue is not a fair comparison. Especially when there are companies that make insane revenue and little profit due to commodity cycles.

Profit margin is usually the right metric. If you pay $100 for something, and $8 of that is profit, then that is the number you really care about.

It's a mediocre article although broadly in the right direction.

NVDA's last quarter: $96b sales, $63b op income. It's closer to $0.65 of profit per dollar of revenue these days. Operating income is the better option for measuring how their actual business is doing.

Visa is generally the margin king outside of tech, at least for mega corps. So by comparison, their last quarter was $11.6b in sales and $7.1b in operating income. 61% op income margin.

But wait, Micron is having a lot of fun at the moment. $41.4b in sales for the latest quarter, $33.3b op income. 80%.

Sandisk as well: $9b in sales for the latest quarter, $7b op income. ~78%. $7b was their total sales figure for the full prior year, now they're generating that in profit quarterly.

Nah, the top quant companies and OnlyFans beat their pants off these companies for profit unit economics, especially per capita.

Do the Amazon numbers include AWS? I would certainly hope their ecommerce division is at least comparable to Walmart and Costco. AWS needs to be split out when analyzing Amazon because it distorts things.
