1000% Agree. Smart Appliances are just appliances that cannot do the one thing they are supposed to do properly and have a bunch of extra bells and whistles attached which are rendered useless when the core function of the appliance is barely functional

We had a fridge years ago that was dumb in the sense that its non-fridge function to the user was only some temperature indicators (and probably controls, I forgot)

One day they stopped working and the fridge had to be rebooted.

Buy a used fridge, and pay Sears or someone money to fix it up. I heard Smart Fridges have an ice cube subscription for $15 a month after a year's demo expires; pay it or no more ice cubes.

They very least, dumb versions should be available. Programable logic chips are the most reliable and never need updates so they are the best choice. But nowadays they use microcontrollers instead which are cheaper than programmable logic chips. Microcontrollers may need reboot sometimes because their RAM may get corrupted.
