I remember what George Carlin used to say - "People always blame the politicians, but politicians are representative of the public. This is the best we can do folks, I blame the public. Imagine how dumb the average person is, now half of them are dumber than that!"

The point being that the current level of mental/emotional/cognitive development of human society is absolutely not ready for AGI.
