What technical implementation will be used to verify the user age?
- Taking pictures of children seems something that will go horribly bad
- Government verification is not implemented, even in countries were it is possible to verify your identity on-line (to pay taxes or so) it still lacks safe and anonymous way to verify age.
- Sending IDs like passports and so will be a source of hacking and identity theft.
I am all for having a government sanction service that allows me to send them a session key and they sign it as I am an adult. The government does not need to know from where the key comes from and the service does not need to know my ID. Just age verification.
So dumb and so glad I moved to Linux before ts happened.
The more times people equate age checks with ID checks the more likely that age checks will be ID checks. Like here, even though the diagram explicitly shows a check purely for age and the system the OS uses still an unknown and likely region specific.
And there it is, finally, in all its glory: the thing that makes me install Linux on my kids computers. No way I will let some further tracking into their lives, especially as it is bound to be from one of the actually evil companies.
This is the other way round. It's to prove that you're an adult if you use any apps or sites that are adult only.
All corporations are evil because their main goal and arguably the only reason to exist is to make profit and that by itself is incompatible with the concept of ethics. All large organizations also dilute responsibility since it's not possible for a single person or even a small group of people to be fully involved in all parts of the process. This results in "I don't care I'm only maintaining a CI/CD pipeline" or "This does not affect me I'm only working in marketing" and people that make the decisions are usually sociopaths because that's the only kind of a person that can make it all the way to the top in a corporation.
