"What's the catch, what's free?"

Nothing here is free, to be upfront about it. There's 24h trial without any CC required. What's at orc8r.com today is a self-serve cloud platform for individuals and small-to-mid teams: you pay for the compute and the platform. We're also building an on-prem/enterprise version for larger companies, coming later, priced separately for that market.

"Why not just use Kubernetes / Nomad?"

We wanted bare metal, VMs, and containers supported equally, with a lot less operational overhead than any of us have dealt with running Kubernetes at past jobs. K8s is a lot of machinery for what most teams actually need day to day, and we didn't want our users paying that tax just to get a box.
