What is the point of “showing” something that isn’t actually yours? And if it’s not gonna be maintained? I don’t mind vibe coded stuff, but why do you need to promote it as something you made? You didn’t and you don’t care. You only care about attention. My god. The HN main page is becoming infested with shit like this.

I have been working on this for a long, long time, AI has definitely helped me with some things and code polish and review, etc and I asked it to replace my less professional comments with more formal ones for open source release. That's the full disclosure.

But I am a Swift programmer, and I have worked really hard on this. This app was not just vibecoded or done in an afternoon or something. And it will continue to receive updates because it is and has been my passion project for a long time now, from morning to night.

I genuinely appreciate your comment because I agree, slop is becoming too popular everywhere, but that is not what this is.

Considering the amount of AI used, it’s hard to call it a passion. You don’t delegate the whole project to AI if it’s your passion. I see stuff like this on different subreddits every day. The overall look and feel matches perfectly a one-off vibe coded project.

I literally have said I'm inspired by iTunes in so many places, comments or otherwise. And as I have just stated I asked AI to make the comments sound professional. That is no secret. It is not a crime to put a spin on an old, literally abandoned concept. And no, I didn't ask Claude to recreate iTunes or something. I know I can't make you believe me, but it's the truth. I will stop responding to this thread now.

I genuinely apologize about the descriptions and copy having been polished that way, as I said, it clearly has given the wrong impression and it is my fault.

If you want people to believe your project is not slop while using AI, the absolute least you could do is write the copy yourself. If you worked a long long time, morning to night, you can spend 10 minutes writing in your own words what your project is, why you're passionate about it, and why it's cool or useful. Slop in the copy is an overwhelmingly strong signal that there's slop in the code and design. After all, if you can't even be bothered to take 10 minutes to write about your project yourself, which doesn't even take particular skill, who is going to believe that you put hundreds of hours of skilled labour into it? Maybe you really did, but you certainly aren't sending the signal that you did, and signals are a heuristic people use to filter out noise because it's too time and energy consuming to deal with unfiltered noise.

Funny, I was JUST looking for a Foobar-like equivalent for MacOS. I'll have to try this out later. I use Roon for daily use at home, but having a network-free local player that supports everything I play at native bit and sample rate is a huge plus.

By the way, what can you tell about Roon as an active user? It costs as much as Qobuz, but it’s your responsibility to fill up your library and provide infrastructure - which is weird. Sure, it sponsors musicbrainz and lastfm for metadata and puts some nice UI, gets buddies in HiFi manufacturers, but what else?..

I’m very surprised that Roon does UNPnP for own port, potentially exposing home network through some zerodays. For that money it has to do reverse tunneling or something like that.

Local library playback has always been a challenge when the size is in tens of thousands. But after that the main challenge is headless networked playback from separate subnets - e.g. one great stereo system controlled by multiple members of the household from multiple devices

Genuine question, are there open source solutions to this? I use HomePods so audio can be controlled from any device and any rooms audio can be synced to another. Would love something more open.
