They'll need to keep on top of this, or one day it'll look like banning 'word processors' in schools.
Seems like a similar path would be sensible: at first it's a topic for IT, but over time it'll creep into all subjects.

probably for the best. just like how calculators are banned in classrooms until you get the hang of computation, AI should be banned while critical thinking/writing/social skills are still being developed

In highschool, students learn to use many tools which are physically dangerous, including automobiles, stovetops, carpentry and metal fabrication tools, chemical laboratory equiment, and may even compete in archery or rifle events. All of these things can be used for good or for harm, and we introduce them when students are a little older.
Why can't AI be on this list?

It's not a good idea. The students will get left behind.
