This whole kerfuffle made me curious how common it is for a geographic object between two countries to be called by different names and it is surprisingly (at least to me) common!

Gulf between Iran and Arabian Peninsula

Islands controlled by Japan, claimed by China

Islands controlled by South Korea, claimed by Japan

Islands controlled by Russia, claimed by Japan
