It's also acutely poisonous to dogs, so if you're a dog owner you already have to be careful not to leave anything sweetened with xylitol within reach. I personally won't buy anything with xylitol in it for that reason.

Yeah buddy, I'm sure that amazing wisdom that took less than a second to some random HN visitor tp comment upon merely seeing an article's title was unknown to the researchers and not accounted for.

"The researchers also highlighted that the association was independent of underlying factors such as body mass index, hypertension, diabetes and lipid levels, which might predispose people to low-calorie products."
