If you use Safari Reader, you already know it sometimes gets half of an article, or nothing at all. The read-aloud stops early, and you’re back to scrolling. Timber on iPhone/iPad/Mac, is my answer to that problem. Anything you can read can be read to you in hundreds of free voices among thousands of available ones, even cloning your own in seconds.

Timber Tabs, on the Mac, takes the pile of browser tabs you have been meaning to read (Safari/Chrome/Firefox/Edge/etc) and sends them to your phone. Both are free, both are on the App Store, and neither one spams you or asks you for a special account.

So much more than just Ollama for Text to Speech Audio – 6 different of the latest LLM models that run offline: Piper, Kokoro, Kitten, Supertonic, and two personal-voice engines Pocket and MOSS, plus Apple's own. 3,801 voices you can pick, 324 of them free, across 71 languages and dialects. Words light up as they are spoken, and the highlighting was just as difficult as the text extraction. That last sentence is most of why this took as long as it did. Timber Tabs reads your open Safari and Chrome tabs, filters out the video and the web apps, lets you pick, and sends a list of articles to your phone through your own iCloud. Titles and links only.

Timber only talks to the network when you ask it to. A link you paste. A free book. A feed you refresh, like the built-in Hacker News which although this is my first post, has given me much over the years.

There is a paid tier. It is the rest of the voices, the full 0.3x to 3x speed range, and some reader options. The reader itself is free and stays free.
