Americans Are Richer Than Everyone Else

I suspect the author of this piece has a bias so extreme it would be visible from the moon, unlike the Great Wall of China.

Statements like: “as in the cases of the U.K. —which kept its spending out of line with its wealth by making healthcare practically unavailable” do not really scream credibility to me, having experienced healthcare on both sides of the Atlantic. Oh, and Brits live longer, I wonder why that is…

Americans have more after-tax dollars than most, but the cost of living, and yes, paying for things like healthcare, soak up a lot more money than in other places, being someone who’s lived in both UK and US for decades each. America is a great place to be one of life’s winners; not so much if you don’t fall in the top 30% or so, and I think I’m being generous here. There are a lot more homeless people, and a lot more “I have to work 2+ jobs to get by” people in the USA than anywhere else I’ve been.

A rich life is measured in more than currency, a concept that seems to escape people like the author.
