The lack of consequences for misuse of power will doom us all in the end.

The publicly elected can demand respect ... but that generally backfires.
As I recall, 'A Boy and His Dog' was set in Kansas. "Lack Of Respect, Wrong Attitude, Failure To Obey Authority. The farm, immediately."

Surprised that FIRE criticized an actual incident of supressing free speech (vs vibes). Shocked that they criticized someone(s) in authority, with actual power.
Aha! Author is a guest columnist. I wonder if FIRE will repeat that mistake.

Could you provide some background/context to your comment?

They have tendency to call protests and speach of relatively powerless as "threat to free speech", because it incoveniemce more powerful people

Well spotted. Thanks for share.
Much better than my draft glib response: founders of FIRE punch down and suck up.

Reminder that at every level of government your vote is less powerful than someone in some crappy flyover backwater Kansas.
They get more per Capita representation in the House, and electoral college.

That's by design, isn't it? It's supposed to be state representation, not per capita representation.
The problem is that since the main government has amassed more and more power, instead of the main decisions being left to the states.

No the problem is that the variance in state-to-state population has (and will continue) to grow.

Another problem is that several "small" states can exploit their disproportionate power to pull up the ladder behind them, since any changes to state makeup have to pass the Senate.

The real reason is that city people dont count as real people the way rural people count.

Just because it's by design doesn't mean it's good

No. The problem is crap states with uneducated populace. The "small government" argument falls apart quicker than the ultra libertarian arguments.
Or actually you're right I should as an American citizen have to be versed in all the random arcane laws each individual state..no. Each individual COUNTY has instead of a common shared American values. God forbid someone play dominoes on Sunday in Alabama.
The problem is the fragmented states where they can hide their corruption.

They get a good bit more disproportionate per capita representation in the senate than in the house.

Another article from that site: "Male students show more tolerance for political enemies than females show for their own allies"
I don't necessarily disbelieve it, but it made me laugh.

That is why males join fascist, authoritarian and far right movements much more then women. It is their famous tolerance that makes them join those.
Consodering reality of male dominated literal near fascist goverment that got into power by votes of mostly males ... and then keeps engaging in a campaign of silencing, retaliation and suppression of speach ... fire and its commenters are just showing their own biases.
