What do the authors assume is not simulatable even in principle? Whatever it is, I think they'd be making a strong technical claim that needs a lot of support. If they can ascertain that there is something about baseline reality that is absolutely and provably non-simulatable, that would be perhaps the greatest breakthrough in philosophy within anybody's living memory, with huge ramifications for physics and CS.
