> “The United States leads the world in AI innovation, and President Trump will keep it that way. The Trump Administration is doubling down on innovation to widen the gap between America and the rest of the world,” White House spokesperson Liz Huston said in a statement to West Wing Playbook.
Heh, it reminds me of when Trump tried to stop the number of COVID infections not by actually lowering the amount of infections, but reduce the amount of reporting so the "number of infections" literally is under-reported.
This seems like a similar strategy, where limiting access to non-US models surely will make the US look like it's leading the AI innovation, internally in the US at the very least, as people won't have access to anything else. Meanwhile, the rest of the world can continue the race to get local and open models running on their own hardware.
