DailyMail is trash; Illegal fireworks are illegal. No one needs to endure another fire so some idiot can hear pop pop. Use your brain and your gun, duh!

Is it dystopian? California doesn’t manage crime at all. People are getting creative in stopping crime efficiently.

In this case, illegal fireworks can be highly dangerous. And they also are usually set off by people late at night, waking up dogs and babies and everyone else. It’s highly selfish anti social behavior. And every year lots of people get injured or lose homes or worse because of illegal fireworks - like this event a couple days ago.

Edit: another comment brought up wildfires started by fireworks too. All great reasons to pay for “snitching”.

I think risk of fire is the big reason that they are trying to stamp out fireworks. Wild fires have devestated California in recent years, and they start easily with the dry conditions

Anything can be dangerous.... lots of states find a way to manage without banning fireworks. Driving is extremely dangerous. Obesity kills more people than anything else, yet they haven't banned high fat/sugary foods. Hell, they legalized fentanyl and other drugs in California. But fireworks? That's too much.

With the dryness and the fires I can certainly understand the ban... but let's not pretend it's because of safety for people.
