Among the tech giants, what is Meta's "AI play"?

Is it: "we'll serve Black Mirror ads (generated via AI) into people's AR/VR glasses, since they'll wear them all the time"?

It has to be an integration with ads somehow.

I made a recent post [1] showing how the big tech companies make their money. It links a post from 2017 but it shows that Facebook (Meta now) is just an advertisement warehouse.

Personal AI assistant is what they are probably going for. It knows about you, your preferences and so on. So more memory based.

Meta raised its full-year 2026 CapEx forecast to a range of $125 billion to $145 billion to aggressively build out data centers and purchase AI chips.

Periodically in the last two years, Meta has laid off thousands of people in their efforts to be a leader in AI.

Which is interesting because Meta is not a hardware company nor are they really a software company in the same vein as some companies who make/create an operating system or an ecosystem from the ground up they are more of an parasitic website company with delusions of Grandeur.

Meta is basically pissing the money down the drain the founder is paranoid that the new era of AI will leave his company in the dust. Occasionally they have to balance the books by laying off thousands of people to keep the ball rolling.

Not a fan of Meta but this is a rather unfair statement to make. They're pretty knee deep in low level systems + hardware-software co-design.
