In a statement to the FOX 9 Investigators earlier in the week, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin referred to Gibson as a "criminal illegal alien from Liberia" with a lengthy rap sheet that included robbery, drug possession with the intent to sell, possession of a deadly weapon, malicious destruction and theft. She promised, "This criminal will remain in ICE custody pending removal,"

However, in his Thursday ruling, Judge Bryan found that "Garrison G. has no criminal record."

Big yikes

Why are you surprised?

Nearly every Statement by McLaughlin has turned out to be false or a very twisted version of what happened. It would be more newsworthy if she would tell the truth once

But it "feels" like he should have one. /s

The noteworthy thing here is that ICE, without a warrant, broke into a home with a battering ram.

ICE has continuously shown no regard for the law.

I had to edit the original title to fit on HN. Original title: Judge: ICE violated Liberian man’s rights by bursting through front door during arrest

What is the end game?

The end game is to cancel the midterms.

At this point I find it incredibly naive to think that there will be midterms.

It is over, folks. The part that blows my mind is how easy it was, and how little opposition there was from anyone of consquence.

Anyone of consequence will likely be ok. They have good revenue streams that they would prefer not be interrupted though.

Yes. Trump already floated the idea and then his press secretary said it was just a joke and viciously attacked a reporter who brought it up:

I think Trump will either invoke the insurrection act in response to protests against ICE Gestapo tactics or invade another country, and use either as an excuse to cancel elections.

Anyone who has read any WWII history knows exactly what in the gestapo is going on here.

This reporting is necessary and good, but a sizable percentage of this country does not care. The response will be something like "the bill of rights doesn't apply to illegals", or "this is what's necessary because Biden let in so many illegals", or "FAFO"

People need to realize what kind of machine they're up against and how close to boiling the pot is getting. Lying, authoritarianism, and bootlicking are a virtue for one side of the aisle.

We will see, opinions move slowly but some polling indicated a majority of Americans, while supporting deporting illegal immigrants, disapprove of ICE and their tactics.

How informed anyone is I don't know... some of my local news channels just parrot official statements.

> majority of Americans, while supporting deporting illegal immigrants, disapprove of ICE and their tactics. How informed anyone is I don't know... some of my local news channels just parrot official statements.

How can they disapprove (your first claim) if they are ill-informed (implied by your second sentence).

That implies that their disapproval is unwarranted.

I didn’t say they are ill-informed, I said I don’t know how informed anyone is.

I would not characterize immigrants as "invaders".

Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022, including $59.4 billion to the federal government and $37.3 billion to state and local governments. Notably, they contributed $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes and $6.4 billion in Medicare taxes—programs they are largely barred from accessing. In California alone, undocumented immigrants paid $8.5 billion in state and local taxes in 2022.

Research using Texas arrest data from 2012-2018 found that undocumented immigrants have substantially lower crime rates than both native-born citizens and legal immigrants. U.S.-born citizens were over 2 times more likely to be arrested for violent crimes, 2.5 times more likely for drug crimes, and over 4 times more likely for property crimes compared to undocumented immigrants. For specific offenses like homicide, assault, and sexual assault, undocumented immigrants were roughly half as likely to be arrested as native-born citizens.

The reporting isn't for the 10%, 20%, 30%, or even possibly 40% of the population who will not care no matter what gets reported. It's for the others who can be made to care. Getting even just 1 more person to care, and getting those who already care to care more.

Not really, I'm on the side of the constitution, I'm usually on the other side (ICE), but here they could and should have easily just waited, went through the law to be able to deport to Liberia again and do the whole process legally.
