That's the way it is. Generally though I think people on HN are interested in languages, compilers, stuff like that. I know I am because I spend most of my time doing applications work which makes systems look interesting.

Also what creators like and audiences like is not the same. In posting photographs to social I get the most votes on flower photos and less on the sports photos which I find a lot more challenging and interesting. As a result I've put a lot of interest in improving my flower photos, but still I find people on Instagram are more likely to vote up "classic" Instagrammy flower photos where a flower fills a square frame as opposed to the ones that I think are interesting that combine flowers with interesting backgrounds, see
