I like Rest of World, and I think this take is necessary from them. However, this article kind of has some conflicts of interest, though I don't think that they rise to the level of requiring disclosure, nor do I suggest anything untoward or lacking in the ethics of the author of this piece or anyone else involved in publishing it. That said, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the irony of this article coming from this publication in particular.

I appreciate the thoughtful comment. Speaking from the product side at Rest of World, one of the things that really drew me to the org (and still keeps me excited to work here) is how independent the newsroom is. It is also a non-profit with its own board. Editorial decisions are in the hands of the editors, and that independence is foundational, not just aspirational.
