Similar age, similar feelings, and it's totally fine. We hear about success stories online, so we think it's always going to work out. The reality is that it may never; so you need to enjoy validation/selling process if you want to continue; it's totally fine if you don't.

Whatever you do, do it because you don't want to regret not doing it when you're on your death bed. That's how I prioritize trying the startup lottery over leet coding every evening.

Funny you should mention leetcoding, that's another 'grind' I've flirted with for a few months here and there. It's alright I suppose, in that I made progress and could see it leading to a better job than I currently have, so it's productive in a way. But I still get the feeling that I'd just take 6-12 months focusing on improving my career, get a new job, and then a few months later feel like I'm right back to where I started.

It's also interesting to consider that online success in this field is over-glamourized, and I've certainly had that thought. But I can't find a suitable replacement for something else worthwhile to aim towards. I don't care if I take my salary from 150k to 250k ya know. Seems like one of those 'some of us are wired to be discontent / restless' sort of things.

On the startup/project front, do you find it harder at all to keep conviction towards a project longer term as you age?

Yep I'm finding it harder, but that's a good thing because I'm learning how to cut corners to validate, and not waste time with projects that aren't showing signs of success.
