In my experience, it is how forums often die because adversaries leave tools in the database to create backdoors when the site comes back online and because habitual users have had their habits broken.
To put it another way, the adversary is probably not script-kiddies. But I could be wrong.

Probably not really hacked. Probably just lost their developers after USAID funding was cut. Blame Shoe for the idea, not me.

The adversaries are probably people that have been doxxed by chans over the years. I guess this is kind of karma finally evening out the odds.
