Unix emulates resource and data fork with .dotfiles or in the case of a historical aufs implementation from Melbourne uni (if I recall right) two distinct mountpaths with identical tree structures.

What was never explained to me is how the resource and data forks map to actual disk blocks on an Apple computer.
