What happened to the “building cities to last generations” trend?

I find it a shame to see a stadium torn down which could have been converted into a township of housing, commerce, craft and industry.

Like the dead modern malls. Zoning and impenetrable policy machines keep artisans and experimental communities from making use of these spaces.

Civilization is what is made of it.
