He cried a lot when a twitter a/c was sharing his Jet's location, but recently he shared names and location of a lot of Feds employees. Doxxing is illegal only when it hurts me.

He's also calling for the deletion of people:

The mask has really come off, if it was ever on.

"In Russia, my act of offering public testimony involving the President would surely cost me my life." -- the guy Musk wants deleted

Isn't there somebody who reads his tweets before they're published?

Maybe he got fired at some point, lol.

Why even bother anymore? He's got all the money in the world and the incoming president's ear. This is simply who he is, and now he can rub it in all our plebeian faces without consequence.

What we need is a new round of trust busting, Teddy Roosevelt Style, and bring this new Guided Age of Technology Trusts to a close!

Musk yearns for the days of Robber Barrons Past! And apparently the Congress is so very much "Citizens United" scared($$$$$) to fix that Egregious SCOTUS ruling that's made the politicians as overtly up for sale the average LA streetwalker!

An agency which has refunded $20b of consumer funds responding to 4m complaints, but he sees as wasteful.

Be the billionaire Elon, live the dream.

smt88

He doesn't see it as wasteful. He sees it as a threat to the wealthy screwing over consumers. He has the same hostility toward all regulators, including the NHTSA, which does an incredible job of keeping cars as safe as they are.

He was trolling SEC a few years back.

Elon Musk openly advertises and impulsively manifests all the same core beliefs of any of these kleptocrats, and in my opinion with a little humor to help my techno-totalitarian dystopian nightmare go down.

Everyone from pg to Thiel to Bezos to Musk to pmarca to fucking all of them believe all the same stuff about the ability to do a thing is justification for doing it. They all rehash tired bankrupt Randian horseshit to create a tarnished aura around it.

Thank you Elon for saying it out loud so that we know what we’re dealing with. See you in the trenches asshole.

There are more dimensions to this than left/right.

Morality is not a real-valued scalar.

pg and his early essays are substantially what informed what I’ve done with the last 15 years.

Until he will renounce Altman he’s a liability to the human project. A menace and a clear and present danger.

Sometimes I'm surprised Elon Musk isn't on here.

consumer451

I've thought about that before. If he posted here anonymously like he tweeted, he would have a -100 HN karma count real quick, wouldn't he?

benreesman

If we held any of the top ballers in 2024 to a standard even slightly more honest than the color scheme of the political party we’d apply that -100 to basically all of them, wouldn’t we?

By all means hold Musk to account, it’s the right thing to do.

But it’s borderline religious to duck the obvious corollary that this is a war for all the marbles. Blade Runner or TNG.

Pick a side.

Around here everyone puts in work, cliqued up or not. And we’re not talking about helping us with our computer skills (have you used Google or Facebook recently?).

https://youtu.be/Y-8Wc-1hWzE?si=_oQYfnDUWmopM2Cc

You can get the same outcomes you get from Mag7 and YC and shit by accident in a hypothetical prison with purely emergent properties.

By all means keep appeasing these cats, there’s always next batch. But sooner or later you’re next. 30% layoffs industry wide followed by a savage EPS beat. Someone call Lina Khan before she gets fired for integrity. Being the last sycophant to be eaten is a very weird strategy.

> Pick a side.

Never, even if I disagree with one side 99% of the time, still never.

Picking political sides is surrendering your agency to group think.

benreesman

Picking a side on Red/Blue is like choosing a sports club. United United United.

Picking a side on unchecked power for private individuals and companies?

You get defaulted into the worst side of you don’t choose: dinner.

consumer451

That, I can agree with.

Almost no one will say that in print today, pmarca writes critical tweets about OpenAI and deletes them and he owns like, a city.

Even one person being courageous on this gets us 1% closer to the 100 people or so at which it snowballs. Some of us are going to organize and make them pay for every milimeter.

The difference being that not many HN posters have any power over others, so their (wrong) opinions are harmless in that context.

And he's make another pronouncement in another couple of days.

> Musk’s post came in response to a recent podcast clip from the venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, a significant Trump donor, who said the agency’s primary purpose is to “terrorize financial institutions”.

> But it was soon reported that Andreessen’s venture capital firm, Andreessen Horwitz, was among other investors who had backed LendUp, an online consumer payday lender, that was shut down by the CFPB in 2018.

There it is. One of his twitter buyout investors needs a favor.
