It goes back further. the NSA podcast No Such Podcast put out the first half of Grace Hooper's speech to them is a good look at problems. Remember these are people problems first, CompSci Second.

Shortly: Grace Hopper's speeches, particularly her lecture titled "Future Possibilities: Data, Hardware, Software, and People," highlighted the critical importance of understanding the value of data and information, predicting that the growing volume of data would require systems to prioritize and analyze information effectively, rather than just accumulating it without purpose;

All problems are people problems because we are all directly linked together. The further out in the universe we look, the more closely we are linked to our problems.

No. I do plenty of my own, but he was connected to this community so I will get a better sense of what is trustworthy and what is relevant here.

When he was connected to HN, HN was different than today…for example a much smaller fraction of today’s HN’ers ever knew him…or even know of him. Back then the community was much much smaller and more intimate.

I never knew him. But I know that the people who did were profoundly wounded. I mention it because it is better if you proceed accordingly with that knowledge. And not only for your own ends.

Good luck.

Thank you. One of the things I would really like to get to the bottom of is the question of why he could not accept the 6-month plea deal. Was it because he feared incarceration, or did his managers and investors do an inadequate job of reassuring him that his career would be protected in spite of the felony? If the latter, this community has a right to know.

No, this community doesn’t have the right to know any of that.

I think his case has been pretty much exhausted. There’s not really much to it that hasn’t already been discussed over and over. A guy died over the pressure of a court proceeding and impending incarceration. It’s tragic but not uncommon, I’ve witnessed similar situationally depressive episodes with people in my life.

I think the tech community blows up the situation into a lot more than it was and has turned it into this martyr’s government conspiracy theory.
