Police departments need to immediately adopt a clear policy of officers asking for a phone being forbidden (without a warrant). Obviously they shouldn't anyway but having an explicit policy would make it easier to act against without needing to first prove explicit wrongdoing while having the phone and it would also act as a deterrent.
Second, I'm dismayed that apparently so few citizens know the only correct response to a demand for your phone is to demand a warrant.
Also, it's shocking so many people keep sensitive personal media in unlocked locations on their phone. My android phone has a Secure folder where apps and media can be kept which requires a password or pin to unlock.
