I wonder why Apple bothered? Is there some large (potential) customer that requires official Unix? I doubt the cost to get it certified was big from Apple's perspective, but it still must've took some engineering resources to do so.
It's not like back in the early MacOS X days where it was advertised as the power of Unix with the ease of Mac.

It’s just legal conformance. macOS X+ has always been UNIX compliant but they were sued for claiming that without having official certification
