Can't wait for the day companies are forced to provide support for decade(s) and/or provide (or support) an off-ramp so their withdrawal doesn't brick the device or endanger the users. I feel like my M1 MBP could be good for development for at least the rest of this decade and still generally usable well beyond that. As for my phone... once the easily-replaceable battery legislation comes into effect I could probably use one for a decade unless more-demanding software ecosystems emerge to push them harder.

There should be a law similar to the Australian Consumer Law for warranties that enforces ongoing support and security updates for products purchased that need to be usable for a 'reasonably expected period'.

This would be based upon the time period that a normal person would reasonably expect a particular product to be useful for.

It would stop businesses releasing products and then abandoning them after a short period of time unless they are willing to provide refunds if they do.
