Hi HN— I’m Andy, co-founder of Cove and designer-slash-engineer. Today we are launching Cove, a new way to think brilliantly together with AI.

Cove started with a gut feeling that we are still in the “command line era” of AI. Instead of a chat thread or document editor, we need a new user interface to unleash the full range of LLMs' capabilities.

Cove is a visual workspace that scales up to an infinite canvas when you want to think big, and snuggles into your browser’s sidebar when you want to work alongside your favorite tools like Gmail or Docs. You can think of it as a place to work multiplayer together with AI.

To realize our vision for Cove we needed to solve a number of difficult design, engineering, and prompting problems, for example: - Allowing the LLM to make targeted edits to the workspace rather than restreaming entire answers - Anticipating users' needs and making instant suggestions to take them to unexpected places - Balancing responsiveness and quality incorporating faster vs more advanced models

Under the hood, Cove uses Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, and Perplexity.

Cove is brought to you by a small team of hackers who formerly brought you Google Maps, Uber Eats, and more. I'll be checking HN all day and would love to hear your thoughts/feedback!
