Maybe.

Or, maybe, it's a clear sign that the uber-wealthy are scared by how dangerously unstable the extreme inequities of modern America are making things.

Historically, highly secure & well-defended castles were a sure sign that either (1) there was a war on, or (2) the rulers in the castles were representatives of some conquering foreign power...and the locals were inclined to rebellion over that.
