I hear the arguments but struggle to buy them: while this makes doctoring images much simpler and quicker, someone could have prepared any such image in advance anyway (or layers they can quickly add on top of real-time images with only some lightning fixes — for real time experience, this could also be only a couple of minutes).

How about we instead start with a survey of what source of data people really trust for news? Social media is known to reaffirm someone's beliefs (citation missing), but does it really change one's opinion?
