I sold a house recently and Chase placed a 9 day hold on a Wells Fargo CASHIERS check. What is the point of a cashiers check?

Typically, if the check comes from a title company or other settlement agent account, Chase will make funds available immediately (based on my experience with Chase and accepting funds from said agents for real estate transactions). There is a lot of cashiers check fraud occurring unfortunately, so no longer considered good funds by default.
When in doubt, ask for a wire.
