Creativity is a mixture of imitation, recombination and revolution. Very rarely does something novel spring forth from a vacuum. I think AI is very good at the first two. However, the third is something else. It takes an artist/engineer/scientist decades of work to come up with worthwhile and novel concepts. Usually inspired by a lifetime of personal experience.

I think, if an AI can reach that point, we will see an explosion of astounding scientific and artistic progress.
