Due to Croatia's growing popularity as a destination for digital nomads and tourism in general, I'm posting this to raise awareness of a horrible legal practice. In Croatia it is widely accepted for courts to award war veterans extremely lenient penalties for crimes that include murder, rape, paedophilia and even war crimes. In this case three war veterans, one of which is a serving policeman, received just a 2 year jail sentance for an ongoing rape of a mentally disabled neighbour's daughter. The rape happend while she was between 9 and 11 years old. The war was over for almost 20 years at the time.
