"Nazi" now means "someone I have been told to dislike" for many people using the term.

Exactly. Nazi now so overused as a term for "someone who disagrees with my ritcheous beliefs", as a way to dehumanize them, to easily justify violence against them. Basically exactly what the Nazis did to justify their actions.
Like Antifa and "Bash the fash".
