There are a lot of people in my town that are advocates of fancy voting systems but I think it's a dangerous idea in that any complexity in a voting system that makes the results hard to understand damages perceived legitimacy.

The electoral college is bad enough: if it got different results from the popular vote occasionally or if the bias appeared to flip back and forth we could live with it, but if it seemed one party consistently benefits from the situation I think it would be hard for the system to survive.
